Description

Spring 2014 Drawing. After the midterm we got to use color in our pieces so I liked the class a hell of a lot more, even though I still wasn't learning anything new. Color Makes Everything Better!! :D (< I am working on a gif of my avatar jumping about in a cloud of pigment dust thanks to the following art pieces because I'd walk home covered in the stuff.) I still had to do the Artist Statements though so .. enjoy (or you know just don't read it)

For this piece we got to eat the fruit after and I said to Tasha (while guarding an apple): "You can have anything you want, ANYTHING, but I get the Macintosh Apple- I have claimed it- it is mine!" to which she laughed her ass off and patted my head.

Artist Statement of the week:

I enjoy color; it makes the chalky dust, texture and clogging suffocation of charcoal like media worth it. I love color. Need I repeat? Oh hell- I’ll do it anyway, I love color always have always will. The blending of color pastels was so much more fluid that it was like actually making something beautiful, not just smudging black into grays or destroying my eraser to a near white that was originally on the paper. Highlights were a challenge because the white easily fades into the colors but it’s a soft glow if the pigment is smudged even a little, but the porous application of the pigment makes it really look like a highlight rather than a solid blotch of white. Both look awesome because the application is so even that it can go either way. Same thing with the shadows, the application and easy transition to a good gradient of values doesn’t make any boring solid blotches of color. “Do I find light and dark values difficult to see in color?” I am going to have to say this again and again (it’s ok- I love it- I really do) I love color so much that, if I wasn’t so much of a fan of black cloths and that I disliked all things girly, I would go around with the rainbow plastered all over my skin because they are so darn beautiful. Also when I am splattered whilst wearing black all the pigment just pops and screams, “God, this person loves color it they must have had so much fun it looks like Nyan-Cat just barfed all over them or that they just came back from the Indian festival of color.” Now the more difficult thing is when you spend so much time converting real life into cartoons when you are about to draw, to just convert them right back to real life again. It’s a vicious cycle. Nothing can ever solve the vicious cycle until they have been jotted into a spunky comic strip.
